This historic pub is on Tangier Street, close to Whitehaven's impressive marina development. The pub has had a number of name changes and was first registered as The George & Dragon in 1829. The pub later was named the Welsh Arms because it was frequented by Welsh sailors taking cargo back to Cardiff. The pub was refurbished in 2004 and renamed the Candlestick after the local landmark, the distinctively shaped ventilation shaft of the Wellington pit. The Candlestick offers a modern vibrant atmosphere appealing to a wide range of tastes, yet still retains an old fashioned charm. The pub offers a wide range of award winning real ales and the staff take great pride in ensuring the quality of the beers are consistent.
