Rutland Cottage

A pub serving food in Ilkeston.

Ilkeston is a town within the Borough of Erewash, in Derbyshire, England. It lies on the River Erewash, from which the local borough takes its name. The town is close to both Derby and Nottingham and is near to the M1 motorway. Although Ilkeston lies within Derbyshire, it is closer to Nottingham than it is to Derby. Heanor Road is a busy road into and out of Ilkeston and the Rutland Cottage is very noticeable. There is a very large car park to the rear and the daily offers are visible on the giant a-board that dominates the car park entrance. The pub is a freehold and thus offers a diverse and wide range of cask ale, with Marston's Pedigree as the house bitter. A range of changing guest ales keeps the locals interested and local Ilkeston breweries such as Dancing Duck, Fun Fair and Muirhouse Brewery all feature regularly.

Batemans XB 3.7 Batemans Brewery

Classic amber, English Pale Ale crafted by the fusion of luscious English Golding and Challenger hops with crisp Lincolnshire pale and chocolate malts, slowly matured to create a grainy, quaffable beer.

Tasting Notes:

Burton Bridge Bitter 4.2 Burton Bridge Brewery Ltd

Their flagship beer. Brewed to the same recipe for over 30 years.

Tasting Notes: A classic Burton style bitter with a distinctive Burton flavour.

Pedigree 4.5 Marstons

Pedigree. Now with added personality. They haven’t changed the taste. Just how it looks. So welcome to the new-look Pedigree, or “P” as it was first known. Strange that, looking back.

Tasting Notes: Anyway, it has a fascinating aroma, with a palate of biscuit malt, spicy hops and light fruitiness. It was renamed in a staff competition back in George Peard’s day. He was the Head Brewer at the time – that’s him on the clip. Cheers George.

Trelawny 3.8 St Austell Brewery

The unique and harmonious blend of English and South Australian hops gives Trelawny a distinctive character of the old and new world.

Tasting Notes: Toasted Biscuit, Caramel, Jam A delicate apricot aroma is followed by peach and toffee on the palate and a toasted bitter finish. This beer has a strong and loyal following in the South West but its flavour is equally as popular outside of its heartland.
