At The Duke of Sussex we are a reflection of the needs of our local community. Our food is simple and harks back to the days when the British Pub first came. It is inspired by the Alehouses & Taverns and the open fire cooking that were used at that time. We use the best fresh seasonal British produce we can find, through our carefully curated list of suppliers. Our signature spit roast chicken is brined, steamed and marinated to lock in the moisture and flavour before being roasted on our English charcoal spit. Our Hippo Inns cheese burger is made with grass-fed heritage breed dry aged beef mince and topped with Oggleshield cheese, made by the Montgomery family in Somerset. Our chickens are grown especially for us on Thirkelby Mill farm in Yorkshire by the Pollard family. We have exclusive use of their chickens that are grown to our exacting standards so you’ll never find one quite as delicious outside of our pubs! You can join us for a bite to eat from Monday – Friday all day from midday, Saturday brunch from 11am and Sunday for our roasting joints from the spit from midday.
