The General at Sea in Chatham is the only pub in the country to bear this name, and refers to Admiral Robert Blake who was appointed to the role by Oliver Cromwell in 1648. Blake was Admiral of the Commonwealth fleet which defeated the Dutch, led by Prince Rupert off Sheppey the following year.
