The Grapes

A pub serving food in Liverpool.

Probably the most famous pub on the planet, primarily due to the fact that the Beatles used to down a pint or two here between their gigs at the Cavern. In those days the Cavern was an alcohol free venue and you could only be served with the soft drink of your choice. In those early days there was only one traditionall pub on Mathew Street and that was the Grapes. The White Star was the next closest pub being located just around the corner in Rainford Gardens. Of course the only club on Mathew Street, at that time, was the Cavern. On many occasions the queue from the Cavern would stretch to the Grapes, no matter what weather conditions prevailed. Needless to say, the Grapes, being the only pub,was always crowded until closing time around 10 o'clock.

Hobgoblin - Ruby Beer 4.5 Wychwood Brewery

Traditional Ruby Beer. Hobgoblin is a blend of smooth rich flavours from chocolate and crystal malts, combined with a refreshing bitterness from English Fuggles hops and a dash of citrus aroma from Styrian Goldings.

Tasting Notes:

Theakston Pale Ale 4.5 Theakstons Ltd

Up until the mid-1980s, Pale Ale was a popular brand in the Theakston range of bottled beers and throughout the UK but with changing consumer fashions and the resurgent interest in cask conditioned beers, the popularity of a one-time mainstay of the British beer industry faded. But, as they say ‘what goes round comes around’ and once again Pale Ale has returned on a wave of popularity encouraged by the growing consumer interest in new world craft keg ales. This wonderful news has encouraged us to brew Pale once again this time with a modern twist. Cold filtered and unpasteurised, the process has enabled us to produce a beautifully hop-forward pale-coloured beer using a mix of new world hops noted for their refreshing and aromatic characteristics in a mash of Munich malts.

Tasting Notes: A potent mix of Summit, El Dorado, Chinook and Cascade hops delivers a hefty zing of spicy citrus, sweet orange and grapefruit. Generous helpings of Munich malt give balance and a pale gold coloured appearance, all to create the ultimate thirst quencher!
