The Old Ale House - do not use

A child and dog friendly brewery serving food with WiFi in Truro.

Our award-winning brewery tap
The Old Ale House in Truro is our very own brewery tap house. It’s simply the best place for a fresh pint of Skinner’s right in the heart of our home city.

As soon as a new batch of beer is ready we send a cask or keg here; we’re talking beer yards rather than beer miles. From fresh brews of our flagship beers to small batch seasonal releases, this is where Cornwall’s independent brewery turns on the beer tap!

One of the finest stocked bars in the South West
The Old Ale House has a cult following with beer lovers. Not only is it the ultimate place to enjoy the full Skinner’s range in a friendly pub setting, but the team is passionate about serving craft beer and real cider from across Cornwall, the UK and beyond.

Expect a mighty crowd of the most sought-after guest keg beers, freshly drawn from our famous Wall of Beer.

Our approachable, knowledgeable staff will help you navigate the selection, with ? pint beer flights available for those who love to dabble, and pitchers of ale for groups to share.

And if gin, whisky, bourbon or rum is your thing, you’ll feel right at home here. We’re constantly updating our massive range of artisan spirits, plus we have an evolving Cocktail and Wine List. You’ll also find many new low and no-alcohol options too.

We’re regularly told that we are one of the finest stocked bars in the South West, and who are we to argue!
More than a pub
The Old Ale House is so much more than just a pub. It’s a meeting place, a social space, a music venue and an events space. We host some brilliant local bands and regular live music nights, and you can join us to watch the rugby and other major sporting events; book a table and bring your crew!

Upstairs is light, spacious and very much open for all drinks throughout the day and night – perfect if you want a slightly quieter setting to catch up with friends.

Our food offering is simply epic pub grub; hands of bread (bloomer or sourdough, topped with Cornish cheddar and served with your choice of toppings) and our famous skillets (local ingredients cooked and served to you in a cast iron skillet. Choices include Steak, Ale & Stilton, Jerk Chicken and Mushroom Stroganoff.)

Hot drinks and delicious cakes are served all day. Call in for coffee, catch-up with friends, take a break from shopping, or join us for live music or sport; like all good pubs ours is full of life from dawn to dusk.

The Old Ale House is a friendly, safe space where everyone is welcome and made to feel comfortable – that’s very important to us.

A destination for craft beer lovers
The Old Ale House – alongside our Tap Yard Bar & Cafe – makes Truro the ultimate destination in Cornwall for beer lovers.

With regular tours and tastings, food pop-ups and much more, Skinner’s are proud to be turning our little corner of Cornwall into a showcase of the thriving local food and drink scene!

Cornish Knocker 4.5

Cornish Knocker was Skinner’s first ale. It’s a golden ale brewed with Cornish water; whole-flower Celeia, Northdown and Aurora hops; Cornish malted barley and wheat; and Skinner’s unique yeast.

Tasting Notes: The taste of the delicate floral hops trails citrus with a slight pine bitterness and leaves you with a mild biscuit taste (posh ones, not your average digestive). A perfect pairing for shellfish, Thai dishes or a double cheeseburger with fries.

Cornish Trawler 3.8

Cornish Trawler was brewed as a truly quaffable ale – a session-strength beer with a malty base. Complemented by Skinner’s renowned expertise with hop flavours.

Tasting Notes: A strong malty flavour is balanced by the floral hops, with a peppering of liquorice and lemon, and pine touches. This is a proper session beer, good with fish, as you might expect, as well as cured meats or a properly hot vindaloo.

Our golden honey beer is the perfect introduction to fine ale as it expertly balances both bitter and sweet flavours. It’s loved by dedicated drinkers too, especially among Cornwall’s shanty singers.

Tasting Notes: Floral beneath a delicate, spicy tangerine scent with a touch of toffee. And its bittersweet finish is great for game, sausages or a chocolate fudge sundae.

Sennen

Named after the Cornish surf break and popular holiday spot, Sennen IPA brings an early taste of summer - with hazy warm weather, beach walks and paddles in the sea.

Tasting Notes: Sennen is a session strength IPA with zesty notes of lemon and pineapple enhanced with the bittersweet kick of pink grapefruit. By dry hopping the pale ale during fermentation stage, we have created a brew with great hop intensity and flavour. An ideal companion to fresh crab, proper pork pies and barbecue chicken.

Tasting Notes: Dry-hopped during fermentation, Towans packs a powerful burst of fruity flavours and aromas that are deepened by the dense, frothy head. The malt that produces the distinctive head also imparts a wheat flavour that gradually cedes to a clean, citrus finish with a sharp, refreshing edge.
