Located in the heart of Alfreton, the King Alfred is a wonderful venue to enjoy a really great pint of cask ale. We also offer great food with a menu that you're sure to find perfect for anything from a light bite to a full meal.

Live Entertainment
Thursday nights we have a regular weekly quiz that is sure to get the grey matter working. Make sure you're in early, settle down with a nice pint of your favourite beer and enjoy the resurgence of the traditional British pub quiz. It's great fun and definately targetted at all ages.

Friday and Saturday night sees the King Alfred come alive with superb DJ's playing all the latest hits and some true classics too. So put a smile on your face and get into the weekend with some great music.

Finish the weekend off with more great music as Sunday afternoons see more live entertainment too.

Boondoggle delivers a hoppy aroma with a citrus punch. This followed by a well-balanced moreish fruity taste. Boondoggles unique character is a result of the use of the finest English Pale Malt, First Gold and Fuggles Hops.

Hobgoblin - Ruby Beer 4.5 Wychwood Brewery

Traditional Ruby Beer. Hobgoblin is a blend of smooth rich flavours from chocolate and crystal malts, combined with a refreshing bitterness from English Fuggles hops and a dash of citrus aroma from Styrian Goldings.

Our famed ''Old Thumper'' craft ale has a moreish maltiness and a satisfying full flavour.

Rock Bitter 3.8 The Nottingham Brewery (2023) Ltd

This was first brewed by Nottingham Brewery in the 1800's as a refreshing quaffing ale for the thirsty factory workers in the city.

Tasting Notes: Slightly paler than traditional bitter beers of the time it was the forerunner of the India Pale Ale for which the brewery was to become famous and transported thousands and thousands of gallons to the troops of the British Empire all around the globe.

Sanctuary 4.1 Blue Monkey Brewery

This beer is designed to have very broad appeal, satisfying drinkers who like traditional, copper coloured session beers whilst also having a punchy hop presence to put a smile on the face of hop-lovers everywhere!

Tasting Notes: A traditional light copper coloured ale, but with a hoppy twist.

Sharp's Doom Bar Amber Ale 4.0 Sharp's Brewery Ltd

Doom Bar is a perfectly balanced beer combining subtle yet complex flavours, Doom Bar is both satisfying and deliciously moreish.

Tasting Notes: “The aroma of Doom Bar combines an accomplished balance of spicy resinous hop, inviting sweet malt and delicate roasted notes. The mouth feel is a perfectly balanced and complex blend of succulent dried fruit, lightly roasted malty notes and a subtle yet assertive bitterness.
