The Rat Inn

A pub serving food in Hexham.

Set in the small hamlet of Anick, the Rat overlooks the village green and surrounding countryside with the River Tyne in the distance curving round towards the ancient Roman village of Corbridge. An attractive ivy clad, sandstone building built into the hillside, probably with stone plundered from nearby Hadrians Wall, with a terraced beer garden popular in summertime.

Drink % Brewery
Bass 4.4 Anheuser-Busch InBev

Brewed to 4.4% ABV, Bass is still brewed to an original recipe using only the finest ingredients and the experience of generations. Bass is brewed with two strains of yeast to produce a complex nutty, malty taste with subtle hop undertone.

Tasting Notes: A medium-bodied complex nutty, biscuity malt taste with roasty, caramel aromas and classic earthy, subtly floral hop notes.

Deuchars IPA 3.8 Caledonian Brewery

Distinctive and long on refreshment. Solid gold in colour, remarkably aromatic, hints of fresh citrus, distinctive light malt and fresh floral flavours, refreshing zesty citric hop, for a mouth-watering finish.

Tasting Notes: Distinctively radiant, deliciously refreshing, Deuchars is a fabulous balance of malt and hops. Discerning beer drinkers consider this to be the benchmark in quality cask beer and for those new to cask, it's the perfect introduction.

Pedigree 4.5 Marstons

Pedigree. Now with added personality. They haven’t changed the taste. Just how it looks. So welcome to the new-look Pedigree, or “P” as it was first known. Strange that, looking back.

Tasting Notes: Anyway, it has a fascinating aroma, with a palate of biscuit malt, spicy hops and light fruitiness. It was renamed in a staff competition back in George Peard’s day. He was the Head Brewer at the time – that’s him on the clip. Cheers George.

Sunchaser 4.0 Everards Brewery

A refreshing and zesty pint, we looked further afield to Europe to find just the right hops and malt to create Sunchaser’s subtle flavours.

Tasting Notes: A refreshing and zesty pint, we looked further afield to Europe to find just the right hops and malt to create Sunchaser’s subtle flavours. Create your ‘sunchasing’ moment to enjoy this beer, whether relaxing in the pub or harvesting like our Leicestershire fox.
