The Maypole pub has been family run since february, 1982. Originally started by Mario and Christine Castiglione, the pub is now run as a father and son partnership, with Vincent joining in 1988. Since 1982 the Castiglione’s have tried to keep the pub as traditional as possible, making only minor adjustments where necessary.
The focus is very much on quality both with food and drinks, and above all service. It has been described as having “a locals atmosphere within the city centre”. In September 2009 the Castiglione’s purchased the freehold from Punch making the Maypole one of very few free houses in the centre and able to sell a greater selection of real ales and more importantly more local beers from smaller breweries.
On February 22nd 2012 we celebrated 30 years of the Castiglione family at the Maypole and we also took this opportunity to host our first beer festival in this week, featuring 40 different real ales, mainly micro brewery, many local several new for the occasion and one,’ Archimedes’, co-brewed at the Milton brewery by Vincent.
