Rumour has it Chester once had one pub for every day of the year, but we like to think we're the one that people prefer.

Ours is the most popular pub name in the UK and we find we're pretty popular ourselves.

Our characterful city-centre pub was built in around 1600 and its black and white Tudor-style façade has been welcoming visitors ever since.

They say we have a haunted cellar, something to think about when we go down to change the barrels on our wide range of real ales. We'll certainly keep you in good spirits, so come in and enjoy well-pulled pints, pub-food with a modern flavour and a good helping of friendly banter.

Wainwright 4.1 Wainwright

An exquisitely, golden ale, named after Alfred Wainwright, the renowned Lakeland author who was born in Blackburn.

Tasting Notes: Wainwright is a refreshing golden ale with subtle sweetness from the Maris Otter malts and the special mix of hops give a delicate citrus fruit overtone. Voted World’s Best Golden Ale at the World Beer Awards.
