The George and Dragon was previously part of Meaford Hall estate, which dates from 1667. Meaford Hall was home of the Admiral John Jervis who became Earl St Vincent as a result of his victory over the Spanish Fleet at Cape St Vincent during the Napoleonic wars in 1797.
