Birmingham born Licensee Penny Hewitt & her partner Andrew Smith (Dayglo to his biker friends) opened The Ace of Spades on 4th December 2004 & has made the Barge & Barrel THE MOST successful Rock Bar in the West Midlands. The Bar is a clean, relaxed atmosphere to enjoy a pint in with friendly staff, your choice of music & great food. The décor is brightened with pictures of musicians and there is a Pool Table, Darts Board, a Snug to chill out & chat in, a Dance Floor, a sunny canal-side Beer Garden & Car Park - not forgetting disabled access to the pub & a disabled toilet.
Andy is the Rock DJ every night with live Bands playing on the stage, these include young unknown “grungy” type bands to well established, well seasoned musicians playing classic rock, rock & roll & blues hits!
We are family & biker friendly & welcome everyone on 2, 3 & 4 wheels! We play all kinds of music mainly from the 40s, 50s, 60s & 70s eras anything from Little Richard to Cilla Black, AC/DC to ZZ Top! We often show classic movies on our Big Screen, bike races, Rugby, motor rallying & the TT!
The beer garden is directly on the Canal, barges, cyclists, walkers of all ages enjoy the canal towpaths to Birmingham or Wolverhampton. We are situated at Factory Junction where you can tie up your Barge if you want a meal, just a snack or a drink.
We cater for Birthday Parties, Christenings, Anniversaries, Weddings etc., although we don’t have a separate function room for hire, you can use separate parts of the pub to entertain your guests in. We offer a selection of hot & cold buffets & you can decorate with your own pictures, banners, balloons etc. Any number of guests can be catered for from 2-150.
